Hi, I’m Vanessa
It’s great to meet you! I’m an artist living in Northern Virginia. I’ve been painting and drawing all my life, and have some formal training in commercial arts. My favorite mediums are acrylic and watercolor, but I also use pen and ink, charcoal, digital, and other art forms. My art focuses on the natural world, including places I’ve visited on my travels and the wild animals that inhabit our world. Our high tech society pulls us further and further from nature, and I believe art can help bridge the gap with the world we live on.
Early on
I began my career by getting a degree in Media Arts and Animation from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I’ve done work for website and apps, created animations for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and created video game assets for Carnegie Melon. Then I moved my career in a different direction, and went into instructional design, where I never looked back.
Now
Even though I moved directions with my career, I haven’t stopped creating art. I’ve taught myself traditional painting, and moved into acrylic and watercolor as a way to express the beauty of the world. I’ve done many commissions and creative projects since then, and I continue to find ways to grow and improve my craft.
